Who is eligible?
  • Students that have at least an 85% final Grade 12 award average, and  
  • Submitted a complete application for admission by March 1, and
  • Enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours for the Fall/Winter, and
  • Have not received a UW Entrance award valued at more than $5,000.

How is my award average calculated?
For all students (Arts, Business and Economics, Education, Kinesiology, and Science), the scholarship average is calculated based on the following:
  • Best 40S English (Comprehensive Focus, Literary Focus or Transactional Focus), and
  • Best 40S Math* (Pre-Calculus, Applied Math or Essential Math), and
  • One other 40S or higher level full credit course.
 
What is the value of the scholarship?
The values of the scholarship are as follows:
  • 85-89.9% - $1,100
  • 90-94.9% - $1,750
  • 95%+ - $2,250
  • All eligible and registered students will be notified of their final scholarship value in July or August

***Entrance scholarship decisions are made on the basis of the candidate's interim average, based on the best five eligible courses. Scholarship offers are not adjusted on final grades

Major scholarship opportunities require you to complete a separate application form. You must research, complete the scholarship requirements and apply for admission in order to qualify.

BMO Leader of Tomorrow Scholarships
  • 16,000$ over 4 years
  • A total of 6 awards will be given out to students entering any of the direct-entry programs of the UofM in September 
Scholarships will be offered to students who:
  1. have achieved a high school average of at least 90 % calculated on the basis of results in:
    1. English 30S or Français 30S 
    2. Pre-calculus 30S 
    3. The highest marks in three of Biology 30S, Chemistry 30S, Physics 30S, History 30F, Geography 30S, Computer Science 30s, or a language at the 30S level
  2. have demonstrated evidence of leadership qualities and future potential;
  3. have demonstrated evidence of a high level of communication skills;
  4. have a record of community involvement (e.g., school, local community city-wide, regional, national, international);
  5. have demonstrated evidence of special abilities other than those shown by academic results (e.g., artistic, athletic, or linguistic skills, literary accomplishments);
  6. have completed a University of Manitoba application for admission by the December 1st deadline, including payment of application fee.
Recipients will be required to present a minimum 90% average based on those courses eligible for the University of Manitoba
General Entrance Scholarships.
Applicants must submit a complete BMO Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship application (PDF), (original plus two complete copies) to the Financial Aid and Awards Office by the posted deadline (December 1st).
Complete application packages must be submitted by the student in its entirety.

Chown Centennial Scholarship
All high schools in Manitoba are invited to select a recipient of the Chown Centennial Scholarship, currently valued at $1000 per student. This award is to be offered to the best "all-around" student graduating from the high school and selected according to criteria established by each school. This award may be held with any other University of Manitoba Entrance Scholarship.
Candidates will require:
  • Grade 12 average of 85% or greater in courses which meet the University of Manitoba admissions criteria;
  • Recommendation for the award by their high school; and
  • Admission to any University of Manitoba program.
 
Manitoba high schools will be sent an official nomination form in early June and asked to return the completed nomination form to the Financial Aid and Awards Office by the June 30th deadline. The nominees will receive their Chown Centennial Scholarship award letter in early July.

Advanced Placement Scholarships
Students who have qualified for a University of Manitoba Entrance Scholarship and have also achieved excellent results in the Advanced Placement (AP), may receive an additional award which is added to their entrance scholarship.
For each superior AP result, UM Entrance Scholarship recipients may have their awards increased by:
  • $250 for each AP result of 5
  • $150 for each AP result of 4
Candidates will require:
  • To be nominated or selected for any University of Manitoba Entrance Scholarship
    *Submission of final AP results to the Financial Aid and Awards Office by September 1st. 
*Students are advised to submit AP grades to both the Admissions Office (for AP university credit) and Financial Aid & Awards Office (for Enhancement Scholarship consideration).

Isabel Auld, Chancellors' and President's Laureate Scholarships
The Isabel Auld Entrance Scholarship is offered to the Manitoba high school student graduating with the highest average.
Also awarding top high school averages, the Chancellors' Scholarships, are offered to the Manitoba high school students with the second, third and fourth highest academic averages.
 
A third award, the President's Laureate Scholarship, is offered to students with the highest average from their grade 12 final marks. 
These awards are valued at $5000 and are renewable for 3 consecutive years
Candidates will require:
  • a minimum average of 95% from their best 5 courses from those listed for entrance scholarship consideration 
  • highest aggregate score on (a) one English 40S course and (b) Pre-Calculus Math 40S and (c) at least one science or language course.

Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd. Entrance Awards
Due: July 
 3 annual bursaries valued at $6000 each for Canadian high school students who:
  • have demonstrated financial need based on a Government Student Loan assessment and have completed a University of Manitoba bursary application;
  • have achieved a minimum average of 80% on their high school courses used for admission.

Schulich Leader Scholarship  
(1)  High schools select their Schulich Leader Nominee by January
(2)  Schulich Leader Nominees fill out a separate application that is sent to the universities 
The Schulich Leader Scholarships recognize outstanding young Canadian high school students who have demonstrated: academic excellence, school and community leadership, and/or financial need.  
The University of Manitoba will award two annual Schulich Leader Scholarships. 
  • The first award will be presented to an Engineer-based Schulich Leader who will receive a $100,000 scholarship paid over a four-year period with annual awards of $25,000.

  • The second Schulich Leader selected must be pursuing a degree outside engineering, yet within science, technology or mathematics. This non-engineer Schulich Leader will receive a $80,000 scholarship paid over a four-year period with annual awards of $20,000.
 
The Schulich Award is offered at 20 major Canadian Universities, not just UofM!  
  • Must plan to enroll in STEM at one of our partner universities
  • Meet at least two of the above criteria and are NOT planning a career as a medical practitioner.
 
All nominations are verified by the Schulich Leader Scholarships office. Once a nomination is verified the student is sent a link to the scholarship application.

Centennial Entrance Scholarships  
The University of Manitoba and Manitoba Agriculture are offering 12 Centennial Entrance Scholarships valued at $2,000 to high school students with an interest in pursuing a degree or diploma in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at the University of Manitoba.

St. Paul's College Awards
Student members are automatically considered for most merit scholarships and prizes. For a select few awards, an application is required.
When considering courses for the upcoming year, students are encouraged to see which areas awards are given. Scholarships are presented in September and January.

Over $45,000 in bursaries are available each year. Bursaries are granted on the basis of financial need and involvement in the College. Applications are required and available online. The submission deadline is last Friday in September. Bursary recipients are informed by letter usually in December. Funds awarded are automatically applied to the recipient’s tuition for the second term.

For students who will begin their first year of the university in the fall, and who will enroll as full-time students and St John’s College members at the U of M.
Students may also be eligible for awards with a July 31st deadline.

Direct Entry Scholarship in Actuarial Mathematics
An endowment fund has been established at the University of Manitoba, to encourage high school students to pursue studies in Actuarial Mathematics in either the I.H. Asper School of Business or the Faculty of Science.

The two awards that require an application are open until the end of July for students who wish to apply.

Application Required Entrance Scholarships are due February 1st 
For all new students to The University of Winnipeg. They are offered during the admission process while students are in high school. 
Value: Ranges from $100 - $40,000.

Opportunity Fund Fast-Track Bursaries
Program is for students who have a minimum admission average of at least 65%, demonstrate financial need, and belong to a population currently under-represented  such as recent immigrants or refugees, Aboriginal students, adult learners, students from low-income families, students with disabilities, or first-generation students (those who are the first in their family to attend college or university).

General Bursary
A bursary is a grant made to a student where the main selection criteria is financial need. Students must also have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 (C).

Alumni Entrance Scholarships
Alumni Entrance Scholarships are among the most prestigious and generous in the province. Six to ten scholarships of at least $5,000 each are presented each year. Announced every year in June, the awards recognize Manitoba high school students with exceptional academic standing, outstanding extra-curricular achievements and leadership potential.
Each high school can nominate just one student for these scholarships. 
 
Keeping Scholarships All in the Family
Two $2000 "Family of Alumni" Scholarships - exclusively for family members of University of Winnipeg - are offered every year by your Alumni Association.

NEW - The Alumni Association of the University of Manitoba has established an endowment fund to offer scholarships to students who:
 (1) are enrolled full-time or part-time in any faculty, college, or school at the University of Manitoba;
(2) have achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.0;
(3) have demonstrated extra-curricular involvement at the university.
(4) Submits an essay (maximum 300 words) that speaks to their involvement with the University of Manitoba organizations and/or activities and the personal significance of their experiences
